The Emmy-nominated 40-minute documentary was recently shortlisted for an Academy Award, and Ms. Perry received the 2014 Gracie Award (Women in Media) as outstanding producer. It is now available be on HBO ON DEMAND and HBO GO.  
Since 2001, more American veterans have committed suicide than have been killed in combat. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, one veteran dies by suicide almost every hour. Open 24/7/365, the Veterans Crisis Line in Canandaigua, NY receives some 22,000 calls each month from veterans of all conflicts, many on the verge of killing themselves because of the psychological wounds of war. Last year, the VA allowed two HBO filmmakers to bring their cameras inside the call center, with the understanding that they would record only the responder’s end of any phone call. The resulting 40 minute movie was edited from nearly 100 hours of these one-sided conversations. The movie captures gripping moments when professionals, many who are veterans themselves, attempt to interrupt the plans of suicidal callers and steer them out of crisis.
